Visas for entering the UK

Overseas entrants requiring assistance in obtaining visas for the UK should contact the Entries Secretary in the first instance.

Embargoed areas

All the competiton areas have been embargoed.  Precise details of the embargoed areas can be seen here.

Training opportuntities

Wendover Woods offers an opportunity for competitors to experience typical runnable Chiltern mixed woodlands and steep scarp slopes common to the Chilterns.

Wendover is some 25 miles north of Reading.  Access to the woods is signposted from the B4009 at UK grid reference SP 887108, which is two miles north of Wendover and two miles west of Tring.  At this junction, turn southeast up the minor road sign-posted ‘St Leonards’. Car access to the Forestry Commission road is in 300m. Main car park is about a mile up this road.
There is plenty of parking in the woods (parking fee applies).  Maps can be obtained from the Café in the Woods adjacent to the main car park in the middle of the woods. Cost per map is £1.50.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed at the events on all four days.  However they must remain on a lead at all times and are restricted to parking and assembly areas and routes to/from these. In particular please note that there is likely to be stock - cows and their calves - in the field next to the Day 3 Assembly field; it is essential that dogs are kept under control and away from them.

No dogs are allowed anywhere in the dedicated JK accommodation at Leighton Park School, not even on the campsite.

Elite Entrants

Competitors entering Elite classes should be aware that they will be allocated start times according to Appendix L of the British Orienteering Rules.  If competitors require a start time in a specified band such as early or late, then they are recommended to enter either their appropriate Long class or the Open classes.

Entry numbers for Elite classes may exceed the available start times.  In such case competitors may be selected out from the Elite classes as follows:

  • Sprint - Appropriate Open Class (if age group 18-21) or Age Class
  • Day 2 – Appropriate Long Age Class, alternatively dependent on numbers the 18/20 class may be a separate course to 21.
  • Day 3 – Appropriate Long Age Class

For all entry enquiries, please contact Christine Vince.

Parking

Parking charges will apply to each day.  Competitors are strongly encouraged to purchase parking permits in advance; the entry system includes this facility.  Prices are as follows:

  • Cars (any) £5
  • Minibus/Motorhome/Car with trailer £7

Anyone without a permit will be charged at £2 per day.

  • Coach £20.  Anyone bringing a coach must agree this with the organiser in advance.
