Junior Regional Orienteering Squads (JROS)
Junior Regional Orienteering Squads (JROS) was set up in 2009 when British Orienteering ceased to fund and organise training camps for the majority of the 14-18 age group. The organisation and management of the summer training camp at Lagganlia for M/W14’s and the weekend camp in the Lake District for M/W16’s became the responsibility of JROS, instead of BOF.
For an overview of our Lagganlia training camp see our YouTube Video.
JROS has expanded its activities to four summer camps for talented juniors, from M/W14 to M/W20 age groups (two in Scotland and two in Scandinavia). JROS also organises the Lake District weekend (Hawkshead) for M/W16’s. During its period of existence, JROS has welcomed over 700 juniors to its summer camps with over 1000 having attended the Hawkshead weekends. JROS has also recently begun to organise a UKCC Level 2 Coaching course for those interested in helping on summer camps.
The aim of JROS is to arrange top quality training for juniors, at a reasonable cost. Over the past few years, the organisation has subsidised juniors attending the summer camps to around £70 per head. Fund raising is essential and is achieved either through grant applications or by asking the Orienteering community to help through donations.
When you enter for JK2019 you will be asked to donate towards supporting the up and coming athletes in JROS. The JROS community would greatly appreciate your donation.
If you want to know more about JROS and what the organisation achieves, then please visit the JROS tent in the Assembly area on Days 2 and 3 of JK2019. You will be able to see a range of photos taken at the 2018 camps and view videos made at the Lagganlia camp. You will also be able to ask questions of members of JROS about our activities. You can access information about JROS at https://www.jros.org.uk/.
Hope to see you there!
