Provisional Event programme now live
The provisional Event programme is now live. There are expected to be changes to it and it will be periodically updated until Friday 18th March. By this date a printer-friendly downloadable PDF version will be posted, so it is not recommended to print anything before then.
Elisabet Barnes to give a talk at Day 1
We are honoured to welcome Elisabet Barnes, world class ultra-endurance runner and niece to Jan Kjellström, to Day 1 of this year’s JK event at Leeds University. As well as taking in the atmosphere of the Sprint event and presenting prizes during the prize giving ceremony, Elisabet will also be giving a talk. Hear her speak about her family history and connections with orienteering through her grandfather Alvar Kjellström and uncle Jan Kjellström, her running achievements, her motivation and how she became the Marathon des Sables Ladies' Champion in 2015.
Elisabet’s talk will take place on Friday 25th March, 5:00pm in meeting room 6 in the Leeds University Union building, straight after the prize giving.
10 days until entries close
Entries for Individuals and Relays close at 23:59 on Thursday 3 March 2016, so if you have not entered then don't get caught in the rush!
Relay Team Captains who need to see who in their club is entered the JK can do so in SiEntries. On the SiEntries event list, choose JK Individual, then Entries List On the left you can Filter Entries. Choose Club and type club name to get a list of all entries for your club.
Relays Update
Just 8 days to go before the price increase for relays. We have a great day planned. The arena is in the middle of the competition area affording great views of the start, finish, and a run through for elite competitors. You can watch the elites from a covered seating area, with an indoor and outdoor cafe. It will also be easy to see the youngsters in the mini relay as they tackle their first controls. As well as a regular orienteering caterer, there will be a barbecue, serving locally reared meats and pie & peas!! You can even have a shower afterwards.
Make sure your team is entered by Thursday 11 February to avoid the high fee.
The effects of the bad weather on JK2016
The unprecedented wet weather is having major effects on our plans for the events. Farmers met this week said they had never known anything like it. Fields are waterlogged and any further rain, as has happened over the last couple of days, just runs off the fields because no more can soak in. Normal countryside work cannot be done as locals dare not go onto some fields for fear of getting stuck or causing further damage. Last March would have been fine, but even two months away from this year’s event, it is clear that some plans are seriously at risk. There should be no problem with the actual orienteering courses, but the parking at Kilnsey and Wass could be badly affected. Please see under Days 2 and 3 for current plans.
Entry price increase approaching
The first entry price increase is on Thursday 14th January 2016, so if you have not entered yet and you want to save some money then act now!
The deadline for ordering JK2016 O tops is on 24th January. They are selling fast, so if you want one get your order in before then. There will only be a very limited stock at the event.
Entries over the end of the year
Entries have been open for a while now and we are well on the way to the first price increase, which is at the end of 14th January (details here). For UK competitors, to enter you need to be a member of British Orienteering, so if you are a current member, but have not yet renewed, you will make things easier for yourself and the British Orienteering Office if you enter before your current membership expires on 31st December. You can then renew without any time pressure.
For clarity, if you renew automatically by direct debit, your payment should by now have left your bank account.
JK2016 O Tops now available
The official JK2016 O Top is now available. It's a really great design using a new product from Noname, suppliers to the GB squad. Full details are here. You can order yours now using the same SI entries system used for entries. If you have entered already you can still go back in and order.
